We’ve spoken up, been heard, and made a difference. After a comprehensive review, it was found that Esprit Park redwood trees are in distress and haven’t been properly cared for during this Esprit Park renovation. Thanks to UCSF, the situation is now fully understood by all parties, including the RecPark project team. What’s changed? SF RecPark is now retaining a Consultant Arborist to oversee the health of the trees for the remainder of construction (first proposed by Friends of Esprit Park). RecPark has promised UCSF a comprehensive plan to care for the trees. We’ll update when we know more.
What do we still need? Friends of Esprit Park requests a detailed assessment of the legacy trees remaining in Esprit Park, so we can understand the impacts of poor care, and subsequent remediation in light of the loss of tree canopy, aka “shade and pollution filtration.” What can you do to help? If you’ve already sent a note of concern, please follow up with a Thank You to UCSF for getting involved and getting results to everyone listed below. If you didn’t have a chance to send a letter, now’s the time. Send a Thank You and mention your ongoing concern that healthy trees are the project’s top priority.
