Friends of Esprit Park Newsletter - January 2025 Esprit Park Reopening & Corner Market News! Esprit Park Reopening is almost here! RecPark now estimates early February for construction completion. Please hold Wednesday, February 5, at noon to join us for a celebration, pending confirmation from RecPark. RecPark anticipates reaching substantial completion and required permit sign-offs by January 27th. A soft reopening will likely happen before the February 5 celebration. We’ll let you know as soon as RecPark confirms the date. Here are some construction updates: Picnic tables and benches are installed Now wrapping up installation of temporary barrier around planting areas Decorative catenary string lighting along the Indiana St. frontage is scheduled to be installed the week of January 27. Lateness on the lights will not hold up the Reopening
Esprit Park Usage Signage - Seems not quite right? Many of you have expressed concern that the new usage signs installed by RecPark indicate that all families with dogs are restricted to a single area in the Park. In fact, families may enjoy the entire Park with their support/ service animal on-leash. It does our community a disservice to have a cloud of confusion starting on the Park’s Opening Day. We are thrilled to have a designated Dog Play Area in the North Meadow, where neighbors can safely enjoy the park with their family and off-leash pets. We are equally pleased that Esprit Park users who prefer/need to steer clear of playing off leash dogs can now do so. There is no “dog free zone” in Esprit Park. Let’s make sure everyone has accurate info and can manage their expectations. A call to action - Ask RecPark to get the signage right! RecPark has confirmed that Park users with Service/ Support dogs on a leash are welcome in the South Meadow. UCSF Real Estate just announced that they are in discussions with a local restaurant/food merchant to sign a lease for the Tidelands Housing retail space. We’ll let you know more once the lease terms are finalized. It took a minute to happen but we never gave up hope. We’re excited to see what emerges! Did we have any input? Yes.
