THE TREES
THANK YOU!!!
After many long months the SF RecPark Esprit Park Renovation Project Team pulled together a comprehensive “Esprit Park Trees Get Well Plan'' to preserve the beautiful legacy trees that they weren’t properly caring for (i.e. watering). Spurred by FoEP advocacy efforts, UCSF leaned into their contracted funder role. Mid-August 2023 UCSF asserted the RecPark Project Team address their internal confusion over roles and responsibilities and required RecPark to produce a tree recovery and preservation plan after too many trees had died or were in poor condition from a lack of watering last summer. SF RecPark finally delivered a plan on November 16, 2023.
We and the surviving trees thank Brian Newman, UCSF VP for Real Estate, Sr. Associate Vice Chancellor UCSF, and the UCSF Community and Government Relations Team for making this happen.
When will the Park be finished?
Looks like pick-a-summer-month 2024. This is later than RecPark’s December forecast of May 2024. Information on the construction-crew-is-back (from where and for how long) and its impact on the project plan? We’ll keep you posted on what we uncover.
__________________________ Volunteer Recognition Time!
Let’s recognize Patrick Hoctel, who has retired from his role on the FoEP executive team. Patrick’s contributions ranged from adding a “let’s just call it what it is” editorial voice to our communications, to greeting (and counting) every volunteer at our events. Patrick’s informed support of Esprit Park over the past six years of public meetings and written statements has been invaluable. Patrick, it’s been a joy to team-up with you!
Welcome new committee officer Camilla Reaney. Many of you have come to know Camilla through her volunteerism on behalf of FoEP (including gourmet baked goodies) and advocating for Esprit Park user safety.
Camilla brings best practice insights from her knowledge of shared open spaces and pedestrian safety measures in Finland and Ireland.
