Friends of Esprit Park Newsletter - May 2026 Games! Gardening! Gatherings! Let’s get busy meeting our neighbors and having fun! Thanks for suggesting activities from outdoor games where dragons may make an appearance, to gardening as a workout. Please raise your hand if you want to help plan an activity, and keep those suggestions coming! As you know, FoEP was one of over 80 community groups impacted by the SFPA implosion last year. A temporary “Neighborhoods & Parks Fund” was created and with the support of generous donors across the City, raised over $2.3 million. The funds were distributed to impacted groups, and represented over 80% of their lost funding. Read more in the SF Chronicle. The volunteer efforts of a small group of community leaders, including Irma Lewis, President of FoEP were instrumental in making this happen. Irma was honored to receive a Commendation from the SF Board of Supervisors for her leadership as part of this Advisory Committee. Esprit Park Renovation Updates: Issue: Sprinkler adjustments - north meadow artificial turf. Brief closure expected

Progress: Temporary signage installed summer 2025. Signs frequently moved and disappeared. Status: Permanent signage est. Summer 2026 Issue: 15 trees -12 London Plane and 3 Alder- removed due to structural deficits. Under warranty
Progress: London Planes replaced.Alders replaced by multi-stemmed Western Redbud trees Status: ✅ Issue: The seating structure in North meadow has separating planks w/pointed wood, risking injury.
Progress: Master carpenters fabricated new edging to seal bench edges. Status: ✅ Issue: Exposed sprinkler beds in North meadow, with high risk of injury
Progress: RecPark Ground team fabricated custom covers Status: ✅ Issue: Flooding from sprinklers - South meadow
Progress: Components under warranty. Ground cover assessed and fixed w/in weeks. Status: ✅
Progress: RecPark used the seasonal meadow closure ‘25/’26 to problem solve and recalibrate the new sprinkler system. Status: ✅ Issue: Flooding from sprinklers - North meadow natural grass w/in a week of meadow opening. Not under warranty
